As the teacher of your child I would like to create a partnership that will ensure success for your child as he/she transitions goes through Middle School and transition to High School. Middle School is a big change for students due to the various teachers students have, the rigor of the curriculum and the expectation of academic and social responsibility.  One of the biggest changes experienced in middle school is the expectation of students to take ownership of their learning.  This means that it is the student's responsibility to manage their time adequately and maintain good organizational skills.  As a parent I ask that you help your child in developing a well managed routine. Please monitor the amount of time spent on homework and studying.  Also,  frequently check Powerschool to monitor your child's academic progress in the class and check teacher websites for information on upcoming events and assessments.  I look forward to working with you,  along with your child, to make this a successful and productive year.

What Are The Standards For Mathematical Practice?

Students from Kindergarten - 12th grade must demonstrate strong mastery of the Standards For Mathematical Practice. These standards focus on making sure that students collaborate and are thinking critically about mathematics while able to articulate clear understanding of concepts as well as approaching problem solving in various ways. Your child will have these standards in their notebooks and should always refer to them when approaching problems.

How Can I Get Information About My Child's Progress?

You can monitor your child’s academic progress on PowerGrade. I strongly encourage you to regularly check your child’s grades on PowerGrade as this will ensure you have a thorough understanding of your child’s current academic status and work habits

How Is Common Core Math Different?

Common Core math requires more in depth understanding of math concepts and requires students to articulate their thinking. Math standards are studied with more focus while developing mathematical reasoning.
